EverydayNippon is written from Japan. I cover anime, manga, city pop, and the audio gear that goes with them — in English, for people who want more than what gets translated.

Why this site exists

Most English coverage of Japanese pop culture is downstream of Japanese sources. Release news gets summarized, prices get guessed at, and the stuff that never leaves Japan — the secondhand pressings, the store-exclusive editions, the reissues that sell out in a weekend — barely gets mentioned. I'm here, so I go look.

How I write these posts

• I go to the shops. Store reports come from visits I actually made, with photos I took myself.
• I buy the things. If a post reviews a record or a pair of headphones, I own it. Prices are given as approximate and dated, because they move.
• I don't fake experience. If I haven't used something, I say so and explain what I'm basing the assessment on instead.

How this site makes money

Some posts contain affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That has no effect on what gets recommended — I only link to things I actually use or would buy again, and every post with affiliate links says so at the top.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, I want to fix it. Prices change, stores move, and reissues get announced after publication. Posts that have been revised carry a "last updated" date.
